The Core Roles of Interlining
Interlining is known as the "skeleton" of garments. In apparel production and processing, the rational use of interlining can fundamentally enhance garment quality. Its core roles mainly include:
- Shaping and Three-Dimensional Effect: Gives garments crisp and full lines, maintaining perfect three-dimensional shapes in critical areas such as necklines, plackets, cuffs, and shoulders.
- Shape Retention and Wrinkle Resistance: Prevents fabrics from stretching, deforming, or wrinkling during daily wear or washing, maintaining the original cut and silhouette of the garment.
- Enhanced Durability and Strength: Provides extra mechanical strength and support in high-stress or wear-prone areas (such as pocket edges, buttonholes, and zipper facings).
- Functional Empowerment: Meets specific processing requirements such as down-proofing, fiber-leakage prevention, waterproofness, dual-repellency (water and oil repellency), or multi-layer composite bonding.
Main Types of Interlining
Depending on the weaving process, structure, and functional characteristics, interlinings can be mainly divided into the following categories:
1. Woven Interlining
Interwoven with warp and weft yarns, featuring a dense texture and excellent dimensional stability in both warp and weft directions.
- Plain-Weave Interlining: Uniform in structure, economical, and practical; widely used in various lightweight to mid-heavy garment fabrics.
- Twill Interlining: Features diagonal textures on the surface with good extensibility and compliance; commonly used in suits or areas requiring localized elasticity.
- T/C (Polyester-Cotton) Interlining: Combines the wear resistance and crispness of polyester with the skin-friendliness of cotton; a common material for shirt collar interlinings.
2. Knitted and Warp-Knitted Interlining
Built with loop-knit structures, offering excellent elasticity and stretchability to perfectly fit stretch fabrics.
- Warp-Knitted Interlining: Includes partially-threaded (skip-threaded) and fully-threaded warp-knitted interlinings, which can be flexibly adjusted based on fabric breathability and support requirements.
- Bright Tricot Interlining: Woven with bright yarns, featuring a unique luster and outstanding resilience.
3. Non-Woven Interlining
Formed by directly laying staple fibers through chemical bonding, thermal calendering, or mechanical reinforcement; features high production efficiency and economic cost.
- Standard Non-Woven Interlining: Lightweight and breathable, commonly used for local shaping in mid-to-low-grade garments.
- Stitched Non-Woven Interlining: Enhances longitudinal strength through stitch-bonding technology, improving the tensile strength and durability of the non-woven interlining.
4. Functional and Specialty Interlinings
High-performance materials developed for special industrial requirements:
- Down-Proof Interlining: A specialized structure for down jackets with extremely high density, used to prevent down and feather leakage.
- Resin Stiff Interlining: Processed with resin finishing, offering superior stiffness and exceptional shaping performance.
- Hot Melt Web (e.g., PA Hot Melt Web): A polymer hot-melt adhesive film with a web structure, widely used in seamless bonding, multi-layer lamination, and industrial applications.
